ー入社の決め手を教えてください。
学生時代に当社で40年以上にわたって主力製品となっている光電子増倍管のモジュールを使っていました。また、浜松ホトニクスの製品を利用した素粒子の研究や技術力の高さは物理を学ぶ学生にとっては有名で、憧れの企業でした。入社試験の面接で光技術について深くディスカッションできたことや、若手の質問や提案が歓迎されている雰囲気を感じたことも入社の決め手となりました。
―憧れの企業に抱いていたイメージは入社後も同じでしたか?
入社前は1つのテーマや専門分野に長年従事すると思っていましたが、実際は光工学や光計測だけではなく、センサ応用やソフトウェア設計などさまざまな周辺分野も学んでいます。その知識を基に、専門分野に詳しい先輩や上司とともに開発を進めていきます。文献では分からない経験談を聞くこともできるので実践に生きる知識が身に付き、研究や試作開発、企画立案に生きています。話し合いの場では若手も積極的に発言できます。早くから仕事を任せてもらいながら、先輩や上司に優しくサポートしてもらえるので入社前に想像していた通りの働きやすさを感じています。
―どんな時に充実感や達成感がありますか?
技術調査のために学会や技術セミナーに参加すると、他の参加者から浜松ホトニクスの製品を実際に使っているという声をたくさん伺います。開発した試作品をお客様に使っていただき、その研究成果が学会で評価された時や、私たちのアイデアが特許登録された時は達成感があります。私たちの研究や製品が世の中に役立っていると実感できます。
特許は知識やノウハウを世の中に公開することで、自分が想像している以上に幅広い分野で活用される仕組みになっています。アイデアが製品化される喜びだけではなく、すぐに売り上げにつながらなくても将来的に社会で役立つ可能性があるのでやりがいが大きいです。
お客様のためになる製品を世に出すことが一番のモチベーションになっています。
―どのようなタイプが浜松ホトニクスに向いていると思いますか?
自分で考えて実行できる人、失敗を次への挑戦に変えられる人は向いています。先輩の考え方や経験に敬意を持った上で、より良い方法がないのか常に考えることで成長につながります。研究開発は上手くいくケースばかりではありません。失敗した時に原因を考察すると発見があります。失敗を新しい考えの種にできるタイプの方は楽しく働けると思います。
